Derby Dreams is a chronicle of horse racing through the eyes of a small-time, New York owner. Horse racing has long been called “the sport of kings,” this sobriquet passed down from the sport’s British lineage. And this name did hold true in the early days of New York racing, when Whitney’s and Vanderbilt’s dominated the ownership ranks.

But the advent of horse racing partnerships has broken down old barriers, opening the game to a new breed of owner. Derby Dreams captures this new dawn of racing, from the perspective of its newest type of owner. From racing partnerships to pinhooking ventures, Derby Dreams will follow the ups and downs of a small-time owner’s oversized dreams.
